In the Spring of 2020 the Town of Rochester received a grant from MA DEP to implement the 18 week Recycling IQ recycling education program, which will end on September 25th. What can and cannot be recycled has changed with market conditions. This means that what residents could recycle even two years ago may not be recyclable today. The Recycling IQ team, consists of four cart inspectors who check 250 carts a week, monitor areas that need reinforcement, and if need be, reject carts that contain a large quantity of unacceptable items. The biggest areas of concern remain food waste, plastic bags, and hard plastics. Keeping these contaminants out of our recycling will help control our recycling costs now and in the future. Thank you for your assistance and cooperation.
